Power

Speech

    1. The word power has been shown through people, emotions, traits, and actions. But the question is how was this power obtained in the first place? What comes to mind when you think of the word power? Or more importantly, who do you think of? The high majority of people would say they think of people like The Kardashian’s, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Queen Elizabeth, and more. What do they all have in common? They have money. They have wealth. Little to no people would say that those living in poverty or homelessness are who they think of when the word power is mentioned. Why is this? It is because power is associated with wealth. You can obtain power through having money.

    2. Those with money are the face of America. They are how people view our country. We see every aspect of their lives and it is displayed in every form of media. Celebrities and wealthy people have the ability to influence their wide audience. This gives them the power to impact people’s perceptions. They have power over what people believe.

    3. People who are wealthy get different treatment than the rest of society. They have power of the justice system. When someone who is well known and has positive ties to the community, the law seems to not apply to them the same as everyone else. Anytime a well known athlete or person goes to trial they are able to be let off the hook either because they have enough money to be bailed out or the judge and jury have more sympathy towards them. While this may not always be the case, it is some of the time. This shows that they even have power over our justice system.

    4. Another example to display why wealth is equal to power is this, wealthy people have the ability to have whatever they want. If I own a business and a wealthy person wants to buy it, they can. I don’t have to sell it to them but if the amount offered is high enough it would be the best decision. They can gain access to lots of things and places just from paying for it. This gives them more power over someone with no money to offer.

    5. Overall, power is obtained through the unfair advantage of wealth. Not everyone has access to large amounts of money, but if you think about it those who do seem a lot more intimidating. Whether it’s their influence, their loopholes through regular society norms, or the fact that they can get most anything at anytime; it is extremely clear that more money leads to more power.
